The Mississippi congressional delegation has shown robust backing for Governor Tate Reeves' bid for a federal disaster declaration following severe weather conditions that hit the state on March 14-15.

U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith, along with U.S. Representatives Bennie Thompson, Trent Kelly, Michael Guest, and Mike Ezell, addressed President Trump in a letter to support the governor's call for an urgent major disaster declaration for Mississippi. Additionally, they requested individual federal aid for 14 affected counties. Should it be approved, the disaster declaration would enable the state to access further federal resources to bolster recovery efforts.

"In the wake of recent extreme weather that brought severe thunderstorms and violent tornadoes to the State of Mississippi, we request your full consideration of Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves' request for a federal disaster declaration," expressed the lawmakers.

The appeal is based on a preliminary disaster assessment which underscores the significant impact of loss of life, injuries, and infrastructural damage.

"Available resources from state and local governments and volunteer organizations are inadequate to meet the state's recovery needs. Significant federal assistance and cooperation are needed for Mississippi to rebuild," added the lawmakers.
