14

An image of Leewood Conner from the Alfred Littleton Whitman Collection (MS 140).

Conner was the Circulation Manager at the Commercial Dispatch newspaper in 1930.

He was born on July 23, 1907 to Claus P. (possibly Cleveland) and Sidnia Skelton Conner in Lamar County, Alabama. He had at least three brothers and three sisters: Ted Skelton; C.P., Jr.; Seay; Blanche Frances (later Simpkins); Faustine;  and Ruth. His father was a rural carrier.

In 1930 he is living in Columbus and boarding at the home of Clara Morgan and her two children, Lewis and Juanita, on Third Street South.

Conner died at the age of 34 on April 4, 1942 and is buried in Millport City Cemetery in Alabama.

The Whitman Collection contains roughly 30 photographs, many identified, of Whitman and his friends from Columbus and Memphis, Tennessee.
