Mississippi State’s Tomas Valincius was named to the National Pitcher of the Year watch list by the College Baseball Hall of Fame, according to a March 11 announcement.
Valincius is one of 142 pitchers from across the country selected for this recognition, which includes players from 26 different conferences. The sophomore left-hander from Lockport, Illinois has made four starts for Mississippi State this spring. He currently holds a record of 3-0 with a 1.74 earned run average, tallying 26 strikeouts and six walks over 20 and two-thirds innings pitched. Opposing hitters have managed just a .227 batting average against him.
The National Pitcher of the Year award has previously recognized Mississippi State talent. Ethan Small won the honor in 2019, while Chris Stratton was chosen as a semifinalist in 2012.
The full watch list features standout pitchers from programs nationwide, representing conferences such as the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten, and others. Valincius joins other notable names on this year’s list as he continues his season with Mississippi State.
