On June 24, 2024, the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics issued a statement regarding Representative Wesley Hunt. This follows a referral received from the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) on March 25, 2024.

The statement clarified that pursuant to House Rule XI, clause 3(b)(8)(A), and Committee Rules 17A(b)(1)(A) and 17A(c)(1), the Chairman and Ranking Member decided on May 9, 2024, to extend the review of the matter. To gather additional information necessary for completing its review, the Committee will proceed under Committee Rule 18(a).

The Committee emphasized that conducting further review does not indicate any violation or reflect any judgment by the Committee. It also noted that mandatory disclosure of such reviews is standard procedure.

To comply with confidentiality rules and ensure fairness to all respondents while maintaining the integrity of its work, the Committee will refrain from making further public statements until its initial review is complete.

In accordance with Committee Rule 17A, OCE’s Report and Findings related to allegations against Representative Hunt, along with his submission to the Committee, have been published.
