What background was most represented in Columbus Municipal School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

Black students made up 92.8% of the 3,213 students enrolled in Columbus Municipal School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a two% decrease from the previous school year.

Columbus High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 949 students.

A snapshot of Columbus Municipal School District schools showed 92.8% of students were Black, 2.3% were white, 1.5% were Hispanic, and 0.4% multiracial.

Columbus Municipal School District roughly covers seven schools within Lowndes County and has a main office in Columbus.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
