Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Clay County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 2,866 students enrolled in Clay County schools in 2020-2021, 79% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Clay County students.

This is a 0.8% increase over the previous school year.

West Point High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Clay County schools showed 79% students were Black or African American, 17.7% were White and 0.5% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are six schools in Clay County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
