2020-2021: What were the backgrounds of Oktibbeha County students?

Of the 5,011 students enrolled in Oktibbeha County schools in 2020-2021, 55.5% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Oktibbeha County students.

This is a 2% decrease from the previous school year.

Starkville High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Oktibbeha County schools showed 55.5% students were Black or African American, 38.4% were White, 3% were Asian and 0.8% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are seven schools in Oktibbeha County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
