Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black or African American highest represented background in Clay County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 2,944 students enrolled in Clay County schools in 2019-2020, 78.1% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Clay County students.

This is a 0.1% decrease from the previous school year.

West Point High School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Clay County schools showed 78.1% students were Black or African American, 18.8% were White, 0.4% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.3% were Two or More Races.

There are six schools in Clay County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
