SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT SCAM ALERT
The OCSD has once again been receiving reports today that an individual has been contacting citizens by phone about the existence of a warrants. What makes this so realistic to many people is that the bad guys are using names of local officers and Judges in the scam. After telling people they have a warrant, citizens are told they must pay now or face immediate arrest. Scammers then want money to be loaded to pre-paid debit cards and the numbers given over the phone. The new scammers are also spoofing the Sheriffs Department phone number. These scammers are actually staying on the phone with victims and directing them to put there phones on airplane mode so they cannot be contacted.
While Deputies or the Courts may give someone a courtesy call about a warrant, YOU WILL NEVER BE ASKED TO PAY BY PHONE OR WITH A PREPAID CARD. THIS IS A SURE SIGN OF A SCAM. If someone contacts you with these demands, DO NOT PAY. Please hang up and contact the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department or your local law enforcement agency. Please share this message with your friends. Let's stop these criminals from ever collecting a dime.
