Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District - New Ambulance Simulator

32

Happy #TeacherTuesday! We're excited to highlight a teacher at Starkville High School who is creating excellent hands-on learning opportunities for students in our Health & Human Services Academic House... Jameica Arnold! Ms. Arnold, a licensed nurse and teacher in the H2S House, has been training future health care professionals at Starkville High School for seven years.

But her classroom has never allowed her to show her students how to perform vital checks, CPR and more inside the confined space of an ambulance until now.

A new ambulance simulator was installed in Arnold's classroom to allow her to lead students from multiple career pathways in hands-on training. Starkville High School is one of only a handful of schools in the state to incorporate a simulator in its career & technical programs. Hear what Ms. Arnold has to say about this new opportunity for students...

"With health sciences, our second year students get to do more hands-on things, and we feel like things are more tangible. Students can see and put their hands on, and we can invite EMTs and paramedics in from the community which will be more informative for students. We’re now one of the few schools in Mississippi that have one. We want to invite other schools and even use it for our elementary students to come through and do a field trip.”

Congratulations, Ms. Arnold! We love how you #ExpectExcellence every day, and we can't wait to see how #shsH2S students use the simulator!
