Mississippi State University’s Roury McCloyen has been named to the All-SEC third team following his recent performance at the SEC Indoor Championships. McCloyen, a thrower from Greenville, Mississippi, achieved a personal best of 20.11 meters in the shot put, which earned him a bronze medal.
His result set a new indoor program record and made him the first athlete from Mississippi State to surpass 20 meters in the event. “McCloyen has cemented himself as one of the best throwers in program history after last weekend’s competition,” according to the university’s statement.
Currently, McCloyen is ranked fourth nationally and tied for 31st globally ahead of the NCAA Indoor Championships. This recognition marks his first time receiving All-SEC honors and represents his highest finish at a conference championship.
In addition to his shot put achievement, McCloyen also broke the school record in the weight throw at the same championships with a mark of 19.94 meters, exceeding the previous best by more than a meter.
McCloyen is scheduled to compete again next weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put event.
