Peja Goold was presented with a Golden Ticket by the American Ultimate Softball League at Nusz Park following Mississippi State’s series-clinching win over LSU on April 25. This recognition means Goold will become the 19th professional draft pick in the history of Mississippi State softball.
The announcement is significant as only 17 collegiate athletes nationwide will be drafted into the league this year. The AUSL, which is entering its second season in 2026, has expanded to six teams. While team selections have already been made, they will remain confidential until the College Draft Show airs on May 4 at 6 p.m. Central Time on ESPN2. At that time, Goold will learn which team has selected her and where she will begin her professional career.
Head coach Samantha Ricketts said, “We are incredibly excited that Peja has received a Golden Ticket to be drafted into the AUSL. She is truly deserving of this opportunity and has put in the work to reach this moment. The way she prepares and approaches her craft already reflects a professional mindset, and we’re looking forward to watching her continue to grow and compete at the next level.” Pitching coach Taryne Mowatt-McKinney added, “This is an incredible opportunity that Peja has earned and I couldn’t be happier for her to have this moment. She has elevated this program, and I know she’ll continue that success at the professional level. The AUSL is lucky to be getting a player of her caliber.”
Goold entered last weekend ranked third nationally with eight shutouts and was among the top fifteen pitchers in hits allowed per seven innings (4.29) and WHIP (0.11). She recorded one no-hitter and five one-hitters during this season for Mississippi State University while leading with fourteen wins.
She joins Sierra Sacco and Mia Davidson as active players from MSU currently in the league; both were selected by Portland Cascade during December’s expansion draft.
The new AUSL season begins June 9 with teams playing games in their home cities for the first time.
