Mississippi State University’s women’s tennis team, ranked No. 33, is set to play its first two Southeastern Conference (SEC) road matches of the season in Texas. The Bulldogs will face No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station on March 5 at 5 p.m., followed by a match against No. 14 University of Texas in Austin on March 7 at noon.

The Bulldogs head into these away games after completing a four-match homestand. During this stretch, Mississippi State played a doubleheader against Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky on February 26, losing to Tennessee 4-2 but defeating Eastern Kentucky 4-0. They continued with a 4-1 win over Kentucky on February 28 and concluded the homestand with a 4-0 sweep of Memphis on March 2.

In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team rankings, Mississippi State holds the No. 33 spot. Two doubles pairings from Mississippi State are also ranked: Gianna Oboniye and Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz are at No. 18, while Chiara Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz are ranked No. 71.

Di Genova and Kempenaers-Pocz contributed significantly during the recent home matches by securing important doubles points against Tennessee and Kentucky. The duo defeated Tennessee’s No. 21-ranked pair Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso with a score of 6-4, then went on to win against Kentucky’s Zoe Hammond and Julia Zhu, finishing at 7-5.

Texas A&M enters their upcoming match with Mississippi State following three consecutive wins, most recently achieving a 4-0 victory over Missouri in Columbia on March 1. In their last meeting in College Station in 2025, Texas A&M won against Mississippi State with a score of 4-0.

The University of Texas will play Alabama before hosting Mississippi State in Austin two days later. The Longhorns recently secured a road win over Vanderbilt with a score of 5-2 in Nashville. Historically, Mississippi State has not recorded any wins against Texas; their most recent encounter was in Starkville in 2025 when Texas won decisively at 4-0.
