Fourth-ranked Mississippi State University lost to top-ranked UCLA in a 10-inning game at Globe Life Field on Sunday during the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series. The final score was 8-7, with the Bruins overcoming a late deficit to secure the win.
Mississippi State (11-1) collected 14 hits and held a 5-3 lead with two outs in the ninth inning. However, UCLA (9-2) tied the game with a two-run home run by Roch Cholowsky. In the tenth inning, UCLA scored three runs, including a two-run triple from Aidan Espinoza, to take an 8-5 lead.
MSU responded in the bottom of the tenth as Noah Sullivan doubled and Reed Stallman hit his second home run of the game, narrowing the gap to one run. Ryder Woodson singled later in the inning but UCLA managed to record the final out and secure the victory.
Woodson led Mississippi State offensively with four hits in five at-bats and an RBI. Sullivan went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Stallman had three hits, including two home runs and four RBIs.
Duke Stone started for MSU, allowing three runs over just under four innings before handing over to relievers who limited UCLA until late in the game. Ben Davis took the loss for Mississippi State; Easton Hawk earned the win for UCLA.
The Bulldogs will next face No. 12 Southern Miss in Hattiesburg at 6 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
