Children’s of Mississippi and the Mississippi State Bulldogs announced on April 4 that Emma Kate Porch of Pelahatchie has been selected as this week’s Children’s of Mississippi Kid Coach. The recognition highlights pediatric patients who have shown resilience and courage in facing health challenges.

The Kid Coach partnership aims to honor young patients whose stories serve as inspiration to others. Organizers say the program is designed to showcase the bravery and determination demonstrated by children receiving care at Children’s of Mississippi.

Emma Kate, an active eight-year-old, has been a patient at Children’s of Mississippi since birth. She was born with several serious conditions, including a heart defect and scoliosis, which have required multiple surgeries and extended hospital stays. Despite these challenges, she continues to see various providers and specialists at the hospital.

In addition to her medical journey, Emma Kate enjoys volunteering to help other children during her own visits. She also assists nurses during lab work appointments. Outside the hospital, she participates in cheering, tumbling, gymnastics, and enjoys makeup as well as watching all sports teams from Mississippi State University—especially the cheerleaders.

As part of her recognition as Kid Coach, Emma Kate will attend Saturday’s game with support from both Children’s of Mississippi staff and fellow patients.
