U.S. Representative Trent Kelly has announced that Elizabeth (Ellie) Grehan from Hernando, Mississippi, has been appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Members of Congress nominate candidates each year to the U.S. service academies, which train young people for leadership roles in the Armed Forces and provide a strong academic foundation.
Grehan is currently a student at Hernando High School. She has maintained a GPA above 4.0 for all four years and achieved high standardized test scores. She participates in several sports, including basketball, cross country, and track and field, where she qualified for state regionals.
She is also active outside the classroom. Grehan serves as Director of Communications for the Hernando Mayor’s Youth Council and works as an umpire and game clock operator with Hernando Park and Recreation.
“Each year, members of Congress may nominate candidates to the U.S. service academies. These institutions prepare young men and women to become leaders in the U.S. Armed Forces while receiving a top-tier education,” said Kelly.
Trent Kelly has represented Mississippi’s 1st district in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Alan Nunnelee. He was born in Union, Mississippi in 1966 and currently lives in Saltillo. Kelly earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in 1989 and received his law degree from the same university in 2010.
