White had the largest percent of student body in Lowndes County School District schools in 2021-22 school year

White students made up 59% of the 5,305 students enrolled in Lowndes County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 2.9% increase over the previous school year.

New Hope Elementary School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,164 students.

A snapshot of Lowndes County School District schools showed 59% of students were white, 28.1% were Black, 1.8% were Hispanic, and 1.5% multiracial.

Lowndes County School District roughly covers eight schools within Lowndes County and has a main office in Columbus.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
